“Let everything you do be done in love [motivated and inspired by God’s love for us].”
1 Corinthians 16:14 AMP
Have you ever performed an action for someone not out of love, but rather out of selfishness? This is another way to examine your heart! At some point, we may have acted with alternative or self-serving motives. In essence, we shouldn't judge a situation based solely on appearances. Just because someone is carrying out a "loving gesture" doesn't necessarily mean it's originating from a place of genuine love within their heart.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.””
1 Samuel 16:7 AMP
Connect this to the most crucial relationship for a believer, which is with God. He examines the depths of a person's heart above all else. He is aware of every aspect of you, even those you keep concealed from Him. Nothing remains hidden in His sight. Regrettably, numerous Christians profess their love for God and commitment to Him, yet God does not perceive any proof of it.
You may be asking this question in your heart, how is that possible?
“God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny.”
Romans 8:27 TPT
There are individuals who profess to "love" God, but in reality, it is a transactional relationship, focused solely on what they can receive from Him. Why is this concerning? Because our God is a generous provider who freely pours out love due to genuine care for you. God is unchanging and will forever be God. His love is not motivated by self-interest, and He is impartial in all respects. So if God loves unselfishly, then the same is expected of you.
Love should be the basis of all your actions, whether for God or for people. We love because God first loved us. You should give out of what you have received. It's preferable to refrain from "loving" if there are impure motives and it being used against you.
It is crucial that you consider this in the context of your relationship with God, as I previously mentioned. Dedicate yourself entirely to serving God with your mind, body, spirit, heart, and soul. Serve Him out of love and a genuine desire to advance His kingdom on earth. Avoid being motivated by desires for fame, wealth, or other worldly gains, as pride will eventually lead to your downfall. Remember that your identity and achievements are a result of His grace, not your own efforts. Your entire being should reflect the glory of God, so that when others look at you, they see Christ and give glory to God for sending you as a blessing to the Christian community.
