A thought came to my mind as I disposed my trash outside. My trashcan was so full that it would be difficult for me to put anymore inside the bin. For more trash to be placed in the bin, the current one would have to be removed first.
This analogy is applicable to our daily and spiritual lives. What old habits, mindsets, practices are you still holding on to that no longer serves you or is of no use? Yes it's 2022 but a new year doesn't guarantee a change of mindset but the opposite. If you decide to change your pattern of thinking everything else will.
“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Matthew 9:16-17 NIV
The key to receiving the NEW things God has in store for us this year is preparation. How are you preparing yourself? Every year God gives me a word for the year and I challenge you to seek the Lord for direction in every season of your life. Our relationship with God is based on partnership and fellowship. He needs our agreement to fulfill His divine purposes in our lives if not, it won't happen. Many believers tend to think we serve a genie God that just drops things on demand without requiring us to do a thing on our own end.
Before Jesus arrived on earth, there was preparation for His arrival. Prophecies have been declared long before, John the Baptist fulfilled the ministry of "Prepare ye the way of the Lord" sharing on the message of repentance to the masses. My question to you is what are you going to do to make room for the NEW things God is bringing to your life this year? No woman knows she's pregnant and will not start preparing for the baby's arrival. She starts going to appointments, eating healthy, preparing the nursery, buying clothes and other necessary materials ahead of time.
When God brings your blessing will you even know it? Will you be prepared?
Sometimes making room for the NEW looks like acquiring knowledge through research or asking questions about a particular topic. What is that seed God placed in your hand that was given to you last year or the year before or maybe 5-10 years ago? The time is now to cultivate it so it grows into something fruitful and impactful.
Get rid of negative mindsets that you have about yourself. How can you make negative assumptions if you do not try? Maybe you tried and it did not work the first time, try again and again until it yields the desired results.
Place in your heart today that you will make steps to do something NEW even if its not perfect, don't worry perfection will come with time.
