When you think of the uses of water, many thoughts would come to mind. It cleanses yet is essential and beneficial to the human body. The same concept applies when it comes to the word of God. The Bible is not just a history book it is spirit breathed by God.
If utilized correctly, your life will transform for good. The word of God:
Instructs
Convicts
Corrects
Restores
Trains
”All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.“
2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP
The Bible describes the word as a reflecting mirror. When you look in the mirror you should see an exact image of yourself in every way. Believers are meant to mirror the word of God. When people see you they should see Jesus. Before one can get to that stage, you must submit yourself fully to the word for it to be beneficial. This means you cannot pick and choose what you want to obey. That is where many get it wrong. The word of God has not washed them because they are still holding on to the desires of the flesh.
”Do you not know that when you continually offer yourselves to someone to do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either [slaves] of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God)?“
Romans 6:16 AMP
There is another dimension to this topic that gives a better illustration from the following scripture.
”Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify the church, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word [of God], so that [in turn] He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy [set apart for God] and blameless.“
Ephesians 5:25-27 AMP
Husbands are responsible to ensure the life and character of his wife improves than when he first married her. He is a cultivator. This scripture says, he is to seek her highest good with care and unselfish love. How else do you think this will happen? It is not always with sweet talk or telling her what she wants to hear. That would be a deservice to her development. He would have to tell her the truth, direct her through the word, and point out errors not to shame but to perfect. This is what it means to wash her with the word of God.
Remember the scripture tells us that we (the church) are the bride of Christ, He is our husbandman. Can we position ourselves as a true bride allowing Christ to wash and refine you? It is for your good not His.
Today evaluate yourself and meditate on 2 Timothy 3:16-17. You may find yourself saying I have not yet yielded myself to either instruction, correction, or even training. Whatever it may be, ask the Holy Spirit to help you to fully field yourself to the word as His bride. Jesus loves you and He wants to present you spotless and perfect before our Heavenly Father. You are assigned to be a reflection of Christ everywhere you go. Do this and you will see how the lives of many will be impacted.
