Who's the Captain of the Ship?

It's not just a catchy title but a question you must answer. Essentially I am asking, who is leading your life? Is it you or is it Christ? This applies if you have given your life to Christ and for those who have not. Have you ever heard of two captains leading a ship or two pilots leading a plane? No! That would lead to competing roles which would eventually cause confusion and destruction. You may not realize it, but this paints the picture of many.
You may be thinking "I'm a Christian, I already gave my life to Christ, my answer is yes". Do not be quick to answer. Just because you are a Christian does not mean Jesus Christ is Lord over your life. There is a difference between giving your life to Christ and making Him Lord over your life.
Giving your life to Christ is the gift of salvation, whereas making Him Lord over your life means that you have surrendered your will over to Him. For example can God choose for you whom to marry? What career to do? Where to live? Your friendships? These are a few examples. If not, your answer is no.
”For whoever wishes to save his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], but whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with Me for all eternity].“
Matthew 16:25 AMP
The foundation that must be laid is death. You must die to your flesh and its desires so Jesus can truly reign and remain captain over your life. When you allow Him to be Lord over your life that is the only way you can obey Him. Do you know this ties into your love for God?
”“If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments."
John 14:15 AMP
2019 was a big year for me. I went through major transitions that year. I could not understand what was happening around me. God was asking me to lay down my daycare business, and everything was taken away from me all at once. The Lord also instructed me not to search for another job. It sounded crazy and many could not understand the drastic decisions I made but it did not matter. I knew what God told me to do. I went through a dry and challenging wilderness season where I was in a quiet place. I was refined and strengthened.
In that season, I understood what it meant to surrender my life to Jesus. I have given my life to Christ nine years prior however, He was not Lord. I asked the Holy Spirit during that season what is happening. He said "You are going through death." I look back and I have no regrets. I knew God loved me so much that He would never ask me to do anything to harm me. That is not His nature. Soon after, the Lord opened up a new door for me and lead me to move to Ohio. I was led into a new season.
The scripture tells us not by power or by might but by His Spirit we can do all things. Take a moment and pray to God and ask Him to help you to live a life of surrender. Ask Him to kill fleshly desires that do not align with His word.
Some of you reading this post may not know who Christ is. This is an opportunity for you to give your life to Him. That is the first step. If you want to make that decision right now. Repeat the following prayer below and send me a message. I would love to connect with you.
Dear Lord Jesus,
" I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior."
